World Intellectual Property Day

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) designated April 26 as the World Intellectual Property Day and has been commemorating it since 2001. The event was established to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in our daily lives, and to celebrate the contributions made by innovators and artists to the development of societies across the globe. April 26 is also the date when the convention that established the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.

Every year, WIPO designates a theme for the ¡°World Intellectual Property Day¡± and this year's theme is ¡°Designing the Future.¡±

WIPO Director General Francis Gurry defined design as the place ¡°where form meets function,¡± and said that it ¡°determines the look and feel of the products we use each day ? from everyday household items to the latest tablet computers.¡± Through his message for celebrating the World Intellectual Property Day, he also emphasized that ¡°design marries the practical with the pleasing. It brings style to innovation.¡±

This year, all eyes of the world are on the role of design in designing the market, society, and the future through World Intellectual Property Day.
