KIPO Commissioner Lee Cheered Up Korean Businesses Doing in Saudi Arabia

On October 23, 2023 Commissioner of Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Lee Insil visited LG Shaker Company, a joint venture established between LG Electronics, a consumer electronics maker of South Korea, and Shaker, an air conditioning solutions company, located in Riyadh. Her visit to the factory was to listen in-person and on-site to any needs, difficulties and hopes the company might have, which was consistent with the current government's emphasis on "delivering proactive administrative services."

Opened its doors in 2006 as the first of its kind, the company put into full operation since 2008 producing high-quality air conditioners targeting the consumers and markets in the Middle East and Africa. In about two decades, LG Shaker Company has become a glaring symbol of economic collaboration between the two countries. These days, it is manufacturing its products even more efficiently by applying new technologies and automating its production process.

Welcoming KIPO delegation, the representatives of the company said "In order for this symbolic company to remain competitive and appealing in the market in the future, we understand how important it is to protect our innovation outcomes as IP rights. We look forward to the government' continued support in this regard."

"Saudi Arabia has a close cooperative relationship with South Korea in the field of intellectual property as the nation has been seeking to realize its Vision 2030 to diversify its oil-oriented industrial structure and secure future growth engines" said Commissioner Lee. "We will continue to strengthen our IP cooperation with Saudi Arabia to nurture an environment within the nation where our companies can effectively create and protect their IP rights."
