Raising global awareness of ‘Extemplary K-Patent Examination’

Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), led by Commissioner Kim Wan Ki, releases that The International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI) is jointly hosting the "2025 KIPO-WIPO Patent Examination Online Training Course" with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from April 14 (Monday) to April 18 (Friday) with the aim of further strengthening capabilities of IP professionals* from 27 developing countries.
*Participants include patent examiners, IP policymakers, and professionals engaged in R&D-related patent fields.

The 27 participating countries, such as India, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates, either maintain close economic ties with South Korea or possess significant growth potential. The course will introduce South Korea's advanced patent examination standards and practices from methodologies of Korean patent examination to cutting edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance participants' patent examination capabilities.

In particular, the course will share know-how on Korea's "Exemplary K-Patent Examination" system to promote the creation and protection of innovative technologies, which contributes significantly to strengthening cooperation on IP protection between Korea and participating nations, while also elevating the global competitiveness of Korean export companies.

This 2025 edition covers an extensive array of topics on patent examination such as ▲Overviw and policies of the KIPO and Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAP) ▲Process and Methodologies of patent examination ▲Examination Guidelines for AI-related inventions ▲Technology Transfer and Commercialization Support Policy.

Its curriculum have been strategically developed based on participant valuable input collected over the past five years, focusing on the most preferred topics to further improve the quality of training.
