“KIPO opening up a Disaster Recovery Center
(Through KIPO Network DB, A Perfect Dual Structure for Patent Application System)
□ In order to prevent any loss of patent data due to natural disasters and fire, KIPO (Director Jong-gap, Kim) had completed the construction of the Disaster Recovery Center and began its normal operation from the 6th of July.
□ The Disaster Recovery Center established by KIPO is a computer center, which is capable of restoring the patent application data within three hours. This would happen in the unlikely event that the original database in Daejeon becomes damaged from computer malfunction and other unlikely events such as disasters such as tornado, flood, terrorism, fire due to malfunctioning facility/equipment and from occurrence of a severe cyber terrorism attack on the patent center.
□ The Disaster Recovery Center is connected on-line with the computer facility in Daejeon. Therefore, it constantly processes the back-up procedure in a real-time environment and will provide the stored data for use in an emergency situation. The recovery center handles all sorts of data that are related with KIPO, from the applicant/representative registration data to the payment record for post-application commission fee.
□ In addition, it continuously monitors the operation status of Daejeon computer facility so that it can quickly detect any occurrence of disaster and carry out the rescue sequence automatically. The recovery center is also capable of transferring the data rapidly between the two centers.
□ KIPO has successfully created a dual system on managing the important patent-related data and has also constructed a separated disaster recovery center that prevents any loss of data and allows normal processing of on-line application and registration services even in emergency situations. As a result, KIPO has acquired a system that will provide 24 hours of on-line application service to its clients starting from this November.
